¡He aprendido mucho!
_______________
I have something to confess: I do mix work and pleasure. So while I was on vacation in Spain, I attended to a workshop taught by Oliver Jeffers. This was my third summer in IlustraTour (you can see here my impressions on last year's lectures and workshop) and, as expected, it was a lot of fun!
Oliver is a generous teacher. He shared his work process with us and showed us some of his sketchbooks.
The topic of the workshop was "Show and tell", so we focused on the relationship between words and pictures. We read some books.
And then read some more.
We talked about words: the seven basic plots, the structure of a story, the conflict.
We talked about how to tell a story just with images.
We talked about how words and pictures can interact with each other.
And then we worked on these ideas to make a little book of our own. I thought I couldn't possibly finish it on time, but I did it somehow.
One of the best things of this illustration boot camp is spending time with other illustrators. On top, the teachers: Oliver Jeffers, David Wiesner and Chris Haughton. On the bottom, my lovely classmates. Can't wait to see everyone again!
