Hello! Any exciting plans for the summer?
My summer plans include taking a little break, working on a new book for 826 Valencia (very exciting!), and hopefully, doing a bit of traveling. Which means I won't be blogging much.... But here is a new list of resources to keep you busy until the fall:
- A note about illustrator notes, by Heather Alexander. How to know if you need to include illustrator notes in your manuscript. Short, hilarious, and oh so true.
- What is fair use? Who are the elves that create the images that live on the internet? Are Pinterest images free? Author Roni Loren wrote a great article about all this: Blogger Beware: You CAN Get Sued For Using Photos You Don't Own on Your Blog. Please read it even if you don't blog (specially if you are an illustrator... you want to know when it's legal for people to use your art).
- Picture Books: Who Are They For? An essay by the amazing author & illustrator Shaun Tan.
- One of my goals this year is getting rid of perfectionism. After a long search, I've found an article directed to artists: Why Perfectionism is Holding You Back (And What To Do About It). It has been a helpful way to start (although I can't say I've made much progress so far!).
- Fine Fine Books is the perfect blog to visit on a dull day... It never fails to inspire! It features beautiful books and magazines from all over the world.
- The lacquer of most of my brushes is chipping away, and I couldn't figure out why... until I read this article: 12 Tips for Happy Brushes. Thanks to Linne Baur now I keep my brushes horizontally while drying. I'm looking forward to a new life in which all my brushes last forever in perfect new-like condition... It's going to be great!
- Nine golden rules of the professional illustrator. A short article, perfect for recent graduates or those starting out in the field.*

¡Hola caracolas!
