TACHÁN! Here is the cover for One Snowy Day!
I'm using the Spanish translation of ta-dah because it sound more intense, and I'm *that* excited about this book! The story, written by Diana Murray, is super fun. It's also a pleasure to read aloud. In fact, I have read aloud it for my cat many times while working on the illustrations. Unfortunately, my cat doesn't seem to care about snow.
Diana M. shares the inspiration behind the book:
My kids are obsessed with Youtube videos of funny dogs, kind of like this one of pups enjoying themselves in the snow. Seriously, is there anything cuter? I knew I wanted to incorporate that into a story in some way. I already had concept books about shapes and colors (CITY SHAPES and SUMMER COLOR!) but didn’t yet have any counting books or books set in winter. So I decided to combine all three, for a book about counting, winter, and puppy hijinx. The book begins and ends with millions of snowflakes falling in a small town. In between, the text counts up to ten and then back down to one, during a snowy day adventure for two siblings and their rambunctious dog.
I remember the excitement of waking up and looking out the window as a child, at a world covered in snow. I grew up in the city, but even then, we had a hill outside our building and all the kids gathered there to go sledding together. Snow brings kids together. Snow creates opportunities for new activities. People don’t just lie down in the dirt to make dirt angels, after all. But when there’s snow! Everything is different. I hoped to capture that excitement in my text. Diana T. took it a step further with her gorgeous, playful, and elegant illustrations. I can’t wait to share ONE SNOWY DAY with young readers!
